Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that embarking on a journey of personal or team development can come with many questions

To help, we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common inquiries. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please feel free to reach out to us directly – we’re happy to help!

An initial intake assessment will be conducted. The psychologist will work with you to gain a snapshot of your life, including a developmental history and your current concerns. Together you will identify strengths and barriers in your life and establish therapeutic goals. The psychologist will use the information to develop a treatment plan which will involve active participation from you in ongoing sessions. Rise Performance Consulting aims to keep sessions dynamic and interesting through the use of a variety of evidence based techniques. Clients are encouraged to give feedback where possible to ensure sessions are continuing to challenge and support them.

We understand that every client has different needs, so we offer a range of 50-minute consultation formats:

  • Face-to-face sessions
  • Telehealth (online or phone consultations)
  • Walk & talk sessions
  • On-site support at training or competition environments

For those who need extra time, we also offer Long Consultations (75 minutes)—an extended session option for clients who benefit from additional support.

It varies for everyone, but 6–10 sessions generally create meaningful change. Consider these factors when planning your sessions:

  • Goals: Do you have short-term goals? If so, a targeted block of 4–6 sessions may help fast-track progress. If you have longer-term goals, spacing out sessions or attending them over a longer period might be best.

  • Availability: Consider how much time you can realistically commit to attending sessions and working on new skills while balancing work, sport, family, and other commitments. We are here to help! Discuss your schedule with your treating performance psychologist, and we can adapt the treatment plan to suit your needs.

  • Effort: We get out what we put in. Progress comes from both attending sessions and practicing the skills in between. Just like mastering a sport, developing mental skills requires practice and persistence—we are here to guide you.

  • Long-Term Growth: Enhancing performance and maintaining a positive state of mental well-being are lifelong journeys. Just like physical training, many people use psychology as an ongoing, proactive strategy to manage their mental health.

Finding the right approach for you is key. Let’s work together to make it happen.

Not at all. Many people hesitate to reach out, fearing it signals weakness or that something is wrong. In reality, working with a performance psychologist is about thriving—enhancing both performance and mental well-being.

Everyone faces challenges, and learning to navigate them is key to growth. Seeking support is a strength, not a weakness. Give it a try and see the benefits for yourself!

Yes. You will need to provide approval or relevant contact details when you make your appointment.

We offer a slightly longer appointment for children and teenagers 15 years and below. The psychologist will spend time in the session with both parent and the young person to encourage everyone being involved in the learning process. It will be expected that there will also be time that is dedicated to the young person attending the session alone (age dependent) but this will be organised on a case-by-case basis.
